The Process
- Consult — ask what they want. Show them in the mirror where you'll shape the cheek line and neckline.
- Bulk removal — use your trimmer with a guard to bring the beard to the desired length.
- Shape the cheek line — remove the guard and freehand the cheek line, or use a razor for a sharp edge.
- Define the neckline — the neckline should follow the jawline, not sit on the jaw. Use your trimmer then clean up with a razor.
- Detail work — trim around the moustache, clean up stray hairs, and blend the beard into the haircut.
- Finish — apply beard oil or balm, brush through, and show the client.
